Pieces of Rare Candy: A Pokemon Gallery & Charity Auction

Peter Le and Amy Kim bring you Pokemon art for charity. 151 San Jose State University animation and illustration students and other artists were assigned one of the 151 original Pokemon. The artists had the freedom to interpret their Pokemon in any way they wished. The result is the Rare Candy Pokemon Art Auction for Charity.

Irrational Games is ecstatic to announce the official Songbird Plushie, now available for pre-order at the Irrational Games store today for $55 USD. The plushie is set to be release in September of this year and sits at 7” tall, has an outstretched wingspan of 14”, weighs 180g, and is comprised of metal & wire.

All Pink 3DS XL, So Many Games deal for Europe

Great 3DS news for people who are not us (us being people in the U.S.) this morning! First we have the vibrant Pink 3DS XL — as opposed to the more muted Pink and White system we got for a limited time in the States — coming to the U.K. on May 31.

The Top 8 Games To Play On 4/20

Happy 4/20, loyal Albotians! If you’re looking for the best games to play when your high, trippin’ balls, or just plain bored, then look no further. We’ve whittled it down to a narrow list of eight titles that lend themselves favorably to medicated play. We would have done ten, but we really have the munchies right now and the GIF above is super distracting.

8. Noby Noby Boy [PS3]

Weirdness from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. It plays like some sort of surreal trip/dream. You can also poop things.

7. LSD: Dream Emulator [PS1]

This Japanese-only title is a bizzarre acid trip/dream simulator based on 10 years worth of dream journal entries by one of the game’s developers. There’s also a 2-disc companion soundtrack and the dream journal itself was published as Lovely Sweet Dream in limited edition. It’s overall weirdness has earned it a huge cult following and American gamers are still hoping that this is eventually released on the U.S. PlaystationNetwork.

6. Lumines Electronic Symphony [PS Vita]

Tetris on Ecstasy. Don’t make the mistake of writing this off as a just another puzzle game. If you like combo-driven game mechanics, going for high scores, sweet tunes, and pretty lights & colors, then this (or any of the Lumines games) is perfect for your 4/20 game time. Just be warned: a play session can last well over an hour which is pretty impressive for a puzzle game.

5. Sound Shapes [PS3/PS Vita]

Music-based platforming with an all-star line-up of indie video game artists and musicians ranging from Beck to Deadmau5. The unlockable Death Mode levels are hella’ hard, but equally rewarding. If you’re feeling creative, you can also try your hand at the level creator or download stages made by the community.

4. N2O: Nitrous Oxide [PS1]

Tunnel shooter a-la Tempest with a soundtrack by The Crystal Method. You collect “E” and power-ups include a Mushroom Shield. Oh, and the more stuff you shoot, the faster your ship goes - it gets pretty crazy. As an added bonus, you can even pop the disc into a regular CD player to listen to the soundtrack.

3. Rez [Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox 360]

Rez is just a great game to play on any damn day of the year. See also: Dyad, Flower, Child of Eden, Journey.

The intro alone is almost a drug itself. Nothing makes sense and everything is beautiful. It also has one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time.

Holy butts! The Legend of Zelda 3DS

It’s not a remake for a Link to the Past — it’s a new game set in the SNES classic’s world, releasing this holiday season! It will feature new dungeons and an original storyline.

The new title looks to “”reinvigorate the flat 2D world of A Link to the Past with a sense of height and volume,” making it easier to differentiate levels and adding a new puzzle-solving mechanic. Link can also now become a drawing and move within walls, changing the game’s perspective and allowing you to see previously hidden connections to solve puzzles.

The third entry into the Bioshock series once again defines what it means to be a true Bioshock game: weapons, weird powers, super comfortable controls, and a mega kitschy-creepy environment of oddity exploration.

This brand new Bioshock takes place in an entirely new location which is alternatively above sea-level compared to the games predecessors. Yes, the vast and towering city deemed ‘Columbia’ presents itself as a gently shifting furrow of clockwork antique architecture. The main apparatus by which this city commutes being convenient rail systems or “sky-ways” which become latch-able by use of the lovely sky-hook during the game. Infinity also employs a new helpful ally mechanic using Elizabeth, the second major aspect of the new installment.

Elizabeth carries the ability collect and throw the scattered items during battle phases. This has really ironed out the tedious running out of ammo previous Bioshock had experienced by making the shooting more fluid. Expect to use the sky-hook zip-lining method when navigating larger maps during intense shoot outs.

The story is pretty nutty, and I’ll leave the rest up to you. The film-noir/art deco style of this franchise will be a staple in gaming for a long time. Bioshock Infinity has been a pretty great experience for myself during my college poverty, it runs great on a PC and would probably be a lot of fun on the Nintendo Wii or equally fun using the ps3 or xbox 360.
